The Farmington Group of Essex Financial Hosts Cybersecurity Workshop
On October 29, 2019, The Farmington Group of Essex Financial hosted a cybersecurity workshop at The Farmington Gardens in Farmington, Connecticut with special guest, Gary Rossi, Vice President of Security Services at Fidelity Investments. The workshop was designed to educate Essex Financial clients on how to protect themselves against online fraud and identify theft.
“Cybersecurity is paramount at our firm, as is informing our clients how to protect themselves against these risks,” said Charles Cumello, President and CEO of Essex Financial Services. “Implementing some of the concepts that Gary discussed, such as enabling two-factor authentication on your accounts and freezing your credit profile are a cornerstone to a sound identity-protection strategy.”
During the workshop, Rossi covered several topics, including how to protect your personal information, documents, communications and digital entities, as well as methods cyber thieves use to trick unassuming victims.
“While most people recognize that online fraud, or cybercrime, is a potential threat, few know how or why they may be at risk. Not understanding who the adversary might be or how they commit their crimes can put individuals at risk” said Rossi, who has over 14 years of experience as an FBI agent, most of which were spent investigating white collar crimes.
Clients who were not able to attend the presentation can ask their Essex Financial Advisor for handouts from Rossi on “Personal Security from All Angles” and “Make yourself a difficult target for cyber criminals.”
